The marshes and forests

foret de vendée

The forests: a breath of fresh air in the heart of the Vendée

The state-owned forest of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, which stretches for several kilometres, is a true haven of peace where you can go for a walk or a cycle. Consisting mainly of maritime pines and holm oaks, it offers a beautiful variety of landscapes and plenty of shady spots, perfect for a refreshing break on sunny days.

In addition to the marked trails, several picnic areas are available, offering an ideal setting for a convivial moment in the heart of nature.

Practical information: Free access all year round. There are signposted trails suitable for family walks or more challenging hikes.

The marshes: an immersion into a unique ecosystem

A few minutes from Kabana Village, the Salt marshes and freshwater marshes offering a fascinating spectacle. Between golden reflections on the water and observing migratory birds, these vast natural expanses can be discovered by walking or paddling.

One of the best ways to explore this environment is to go for a canoe or stand-up paddleboard trip on the Marais Breton Vendéen, where you glide silently amongst the reeds and wet meadows. To gain a better understanding of this ecosystem and the work of the salt workers, a guided tour of the salt marshes is also available, featuring demonstrations of salt harvesting.

Practical information: Canoe trips are available from Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Tours of the salt marshes are mainly available in summer and are subject to booking.
