9:30 AM – Depart for Sallertaine, a village of artisans and traditions

Your adventure begins in the charming village of Sallertaine, located about thirty minutes from Kabana Village campsite. Known for its «Town of Arts and Crafts» label, this small commune is brimming with artisan workshops where you can discoverPottery, leatherwork, wood carving, and art glass.. Meet passionate creators who are happy to share their expertise, all in a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for strolling through flowery lanes before setting off on an adventure.

Before you leave, don't miss visiting The Romanesque Church of Saint-Martin and to make a stop at the shop Rairé Mill, one of the last working windmills in Vendée.

10:30 AM – Boarding for a boat trip on the Salt Route

One of the highlights of your day starts here: a Traditional boat trip along the canals and marshes of the Pays de Monts. Accompanied by a guide, you'll board a "plate" (a flat-bottomed boat typical of the marshes) for a gentle journey through the unspoilt landscapes.

What you will discover along the way:

  • Local flora and fauna Herons, egrets, storks, and reeds dancing in the breeze.
  • The old smugglers' routes which were once used to transport salt secretly.
  • The Mysteries of the Salt Marshes and the secrets of the plumber's trade.

Your guide will tell you fascinating anecdotes about the history of the marshes, and you might even get the chance to try pushing the boat with the «pigouille», a pole used by local boatmen.

12:30 PM - Lunch with flavours of the marsh.

After this calming stroll, it's time for a delicious lunch! Here are a few Good places to savour Vendéen specialities nearby:

  • The Marsh Inn (Sallertaine): Authentic cuisine with local produce, like the famous fried eels or Ham and flageolet beans.
  • Le Bistrot du Marais (Challans): a friendly atmosphere and revisited dishes with fresh, local produce.
  • Picnic by the water If you prefer an al fresco lunch, opt for a picnic basket with local specialities (Vendée brioche, duck rillettes and seasonal fruit). Many green spots along the canals offer an idyllic setting.

14:00 – Visit to a salt marsh and meeting with a salt worker

The afternoon is dedicated to a meeting with a salt maker, these salt artisans who perpetuate an ancestral savoir-faire. Several salt marshes offer fascinating guided tours: ls Salins du Breuil in Beauvoir-sur-Mer or Le Marais de la Vie in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez.

The guides will explain to you How seawater is channelled, how it evaporates under the sun and how the salt is finally harvested by hand. A unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of this "white gold" that brings renown to the Vendée.

16:00 – Bike ride between the salt marshes and oyster huts

After visiting the salt marsh, hop on a Bicycle and go and discover the surrounding landscapes. The Vélodyssée, famous Cycle lane following the Atlantic, passing through several picturesque corners of the marsh.

We suggest you choose the 10-kilometre circuit around the Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez marshes, with a stop at an oyster hut! Along the way, stop at one of the oyster huts for a Oyster tasting accompanied by a glass of local white wine.

And at 6:00 PM, return to Kabana Village campsite for a relaxing evening. You can share your experiences with other travellers over an aperitif, and perhaps even prepare a recipe with the Noirmoutier salt you brought back as a souvenir!
